Take a peak behind the scenes of our styled shoot featuring AMAZING mama run businesses and of course – Mama Tribe mums! – held last month on the Gold Coast.
We’ve got some new (exciting!) things in the works (all will be revealed!), which called for some professional shots and we decided to make a day of it and find some Mama Tribe Mamas who were keen to get their glam on and be spoilt for the day!
Planning the shoot
I started by contacting Mama Tribe Mama and epic photographer Brooke Harper from Brooke Michelle Photography. I’ve known Brooke for just over a year – we met through Mama Tribe a few weeks after we started, she’s mum to three super cute kids and uber talented. We met for coffee at our mutual favourite (Zaraffas!) and chatted about the vibe we wanted to achieve over a double shot lattes and a few Pinterest boards.
Next, I put a call out on our Gold Coast Mama Tribe group for some models, and we were absolutely inundated with responses! We were initially looking for 5 models, and ended up having nine. I would have LOVED to have had everyone involved, but I guess that just means we need to do another one soon! Our lovely models brought along their bubs on the day and it was CUTENESS OVERLOAD. Big thank you to our beautiful models Mary, Camélia, Elise, Nat, Kelly, Mady, Bridie, Nichola, Tayla.
Through the Gold Coast Girls in Business group I connected with the lovely Sandy, owner of Burleigh Studio and Mossy Boutique. After a quick chat on the phone Sandy invited me to come and take a look at her space and it was love at first sight. I really, really wanted a white brick wall and Burleigh Studio had that and more. There was an infinity wall, some epic roller doors and being in an industrial area there were lots of other little hidden gems to use as backdrops (like a Blue Combi!). The studio was a complete dream to work from and we were able to get a lot of different looks in the shots!
Hair and Make-up
The super talented Natasha Hammond and Ashleigh Bialic were our glam squad, making our mamas even more beautiful with some pampering! Natasha was able to create some amazing make-up looks on our models and Ashleigh did beautiful make-up as well as our models hair. Ashleigh and Natasha were both absolute guns, we had nine models to get ready for the shoot and these women absolutely powered through, without breaking a sweat!
Mama Tribe tees
I connected with the the lovely (and 36 week pregnant!) Natasha from Handmade by Tash (again through the GC Girls in Business group!) who made our Mama Tribe shirts. These shirts are EPIC and we’re super excited to open pre-orders for them now.
Mama Tribe Jackets
After getting some feedback on jacket designs from our IG stories tribe, I landed on the final looks. I called on another pregnant friend – Haley from Tweed Embroidery to bring the Mama Tribe Jacket dream to life. Haley made the jackets for me in record time and I am absolutely in LOVE with them! The Hood tees
I’ve admired The Hood’s brand for such along time, they have the most amazing tees and sweaters that giving a knowing nod to MotherHood and the greater SisterHood. If they weren’t cool enough already, they also donate a gold coin to the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) for every purchase. Their “OK, BUT FIRST KINDNESS” and “YOU GOT THIS” tees make me so happy and really fit our Mama Tribe Vibe, so I was so stoked when they said they would be involved too!
A lover of shiny things, I have been stalking Electric Confetti’s instagram account for some time. It was hard to choose just one neon to use for the shoot (they are all amazing!) but I landed on their diamond neon, which is super cute!
White Haven Emporium
I connected with the lovely Alice from White Haven Emporium (again through the Gold Coast Girls in Business group!) she heard what we were doing and was super keen to be involved. Our models got to each choose an outfit from White Haven Boutique to wear on the day, their clothes are CRAZY comfortable and totally on point for mum life!
Day of the shoot
We started the shoot at 8am, with two models arriving each hour for hair and make-up. Ashleigh and Natasha worked their magic, making each mama feel a million dollars!
I had a mid morning visit from the husband and little dude (with coffee!) and Brooke grabbed a few snaps for me (thanks Brooke!) before I got back to steaming clothes, grabbing props, holding babies and helping out!
After their visit, we got straight into shooting.
It was a massive morning, with lots happening. We stopped for a pizza break, then pushed through to to the last shots of the day. And they. were. EPIC!
Everyone on the day arrived as strangers, but by the end of the shoot, you would have never guessed that! The vibe was incredible. It was so lovely to spend a day with a wonderful group of mums and create some magic together! We would love to do this everyday!
Keep an eye out for another styled shoot coming soon!
